“The difference between men and boys is the
size of their toys”
That statement’s been around for a
while. It’s a statement of one-upmanship, of ego, and misused privilege mostly
used by the men with the fanciest and fastest cars, the larger sleeker boats,
etc. It can be seen in action by taking a quick trip down to Burnham Harbor on
Chicago’s lakefront. There one will see some very large and fancy yachts,
amongst the smaller fishing boats. This is not a reflection of all who are
fortunate enough to have the “toys”, per se. It does, however, address the
attitude that often comes by owning such.
When it comes to real life matters,
where the stakes are high, where the prize is eternity in Heaven, where we have
to know Christ in order to reach that prize, there is a huge difference between
the men and the boys.
Here’s to all the real men out there. Boys play house, men build
homes. Boys shack up, men get married. Boys make babies, men raise children. A boy
won’t raise his own children. A man will raise someone else’s. Boys invent
excuses for failure. Men produce strategies for success. Boys look for someone
to take care of them. Men look for someone to take care of. Boys seek
popularity. Men demand respect, and know how to give it.
The real
difference between the men and the boys isn’t their toys. It’s whether they are
Christ centered or not. A real man can own that 35 foot fancy yacht just as a
boy can.
Bottom Line Thought:
Regardless what toys you have, have you grown up to be a real man yet?
