I’ll date myself here. When I was a
kid we used to watch the Friday Night Fights on our 1st television,
one with a huge wooden cabinet and a tiny 9” black and white screen. The ring
announcer would introduce each of the fighters by pointing to a corner and
saying “and in this corner”….naming who the boxer was. After the announcements,
the boxers would have at it, beating on each other.
Life gets to be like a boxing match
sometimes doesn’t it? There are times when we feel we are getting the crud beat
out of us, or we feel like we are someone’s personal punching bag. There are
times when we know we are doing right, yet we get clobbered again and again. We
punch back, and yet our adversary, who or whatever it is seems to have the
upper hand against us. It is those times that can cause our faith to weaken isn’t
it?
One of the realities that many of
us became acutely aware of as we embarked on spiritual journeys was that we
were ambushed by God’s grace and love in a big way. And in discovering that, we
found that as long as we know that God is
for us, it doesn’t matter who is against us.
Perhaps, when life gets tough, we
need to picture ourselves as a fighter in a boxing ring. Our name is called,
and then we hear “and in this corner is God.” At that point we can drop our
gloves and simply go into a clinch with Him to get us through the fight.
Bottom Line Thought: You
don’t have to be going through the fight of your life to clinch God do you? He’s
there for you in every little battle isn’t he? How often do you turn away from
the fight to embrace Him?
