Surprise !!

We all like nice surprises don’t we? A nice surprise such as a random act of kindness directed our way, an unexpected affirmation, a smile or kind word from a stranger go a long way to making our day a better day. We also get a kick out of doing something nice as a surprise for someone else. We think those surprises make for a happy person.

Unfortunately, there are surprises that aren’t nice, like when we hear of the sudden death of a loved one or a friend. Death is sad at any time, but at least we can somewhat prepare ourselves for a death when we know, or have been told, that it is expected.

 

The truth is, none of us know when our own death will come, do we? We don’t know when our last goodbye will be spoken, or under what circumstances. Should not that be incentive enough for us to live our lives striving to be men who follow Christ?

The only surprise any of us should really crave is the one that comes when we die and we find heaven is so much more than we ever imagined.
